Speeding on Meridian Lake Drive
The homeowners who live along the lower part of Meridian Lake Drive have families with small children that cross the road constantly. They are about the same height of the tall grasses that grow along the road in the summer. This could be a tragedy waiting to happen.
Vehicles just coasting down the hill can reach speeds of 40 MPH after they round the corner and reach the flat part of the road.
CB South had 15 MPH speed limit signs. After complaints of speeding, or "hauling ass through here" their homeowners Board asked the County for a speed survey. Many complaints were from parents concerned about their young children's safety. What they got from the County Commissioners was a 25 MPH speed limit along with the County's 25 MPH signs. Being unincorporated they are not allowed by law to set their our speed limits. Does this sound familiar? The County is just enforcing a State law.
If you see any trucks speeding down the hill, please notify one of the Board members with the company name, date and time. We have a map and letter we have used to distribute to local firms asking them to use Meadows Drive instead. Members should consider using this route.
15 mph in our residential area is far more appropriate, especially on the lower part of Meridian Lake Drive.
