Dumpster Discontinued
For the past 5 years MLPC has provided
a dumpster for departing part-time residents to use for disposing
of garbage. Unfortunately, it appears people other than MLPC homeowners
have been using the dumpster. It also proved difficult to find
an acceptable location for the dumpster or enclosure. No one wanted
it in the Common Area next to them. Therefore, the dumpster was
removed after the Labor Day weekend.
If you utilized the dumpster in the past, please make arrangements
with a neighbor or your caretaker to have your trash cans put
by the curb for the regular Wednesday collection. Waste Management
at Riverland Industrial Park has just informed us that you can
only take your garbage to them on Tuesdays and Fridays between
the hours of 8:00 am and 12 noon. Tell them you are a resident
of MLPC and there will be no charge for leaving your trash with
them. Ron Baker
Recycling Starts October 1st
Our new recycling service will start
on Wednesday, October 1. The cost to each home will be $2.00 per
month. $6.00 will be added to your quarterly invoice.
Glass, steel and aluminum containers do not have to be sorted.
They can be "co-mingled", but they must be clean. Corrugated
cardboard or newspapers must be bundled with twine in two directions.
Plastic containers can be dropped off between 10 am & 2 pm
on Wednesdays by the Fire Station on Maroon Ave in CB.
If you did not receive your bins, call Waste Mgt at 349-5957 to
obtain your bins. Ron
Covenant Enforcement
The Board of MLPC is pursuing this
sensitive subject. Recent complaints range from contractor's dogs,
to horses, to construction issues, to unsightly properties due
to illegal outdoor parking or storage of vehicles.
As the area continues to build out, it is becoming more important
than ever to ensure that we all abide by the terms of the covenants
that are part of our deed restrictions. Take some quality time
to review the Covenants and ensure that you are following the
spirit of the document.
The MLPC Board is not empowered to grant a variance to most covenants.
Covenants can only be changed by a 67% vote of the membership.
The MLPC Board is empowered in certain instances to grant variances
to the Architectural Control section of the Covenants. If you
feel that an architectural control variance is in order, please
obtain the variance in writing before you act.
If you live in the Meadows or Pristine point,
your properties are governed by two sets of Covenants. It is never
adequate to approach just one board when seeking an
opinion on covenant interpretation. The stricter of the two covenants
applies. If you have questions, please feel free to contact a
Board member.
In the mean time, in a neighborly way, we are addressing the complaints
received on a priority basis. As President Lincoln said, "we
can't please all the people, all the time". But, progress
is being made. Ron
Bears Will Return This Fall
Our subdivision is in black bear habitat.
Bears will come down again to our elevation for large amounts
of food and calories before the hibernating. A few reminders:
Garbage - keep your garbage cans inside your closed garage except
on Wednesday mornings.
Bird feeders - put those bird feeders away, even those on your
decks. Bears can climb.
Refrigerators - bears know how to open them. Keep your doors locked,
especially if you have those designer lever-type door handles.
Once a bear has been inside your house, they will come back. More
information about bears and other wild animals is archived on
our Web Site. Editor
Saddle Ridge Sewer Tie-In
The Association did receive $37,800.00
from Saddle Ridge Development, for the use of several hundred
feet of our sewer line so these new homes can be connected to
Mt. C B W & S. Saddle Ridge development is south of Glacier
Lily.
E-mail us at suggestionbox@MeridianLake.com, if you have any suggestions
about what to do with this revenue. Editor
Tennis Courts Repair & Usage
This year we spent over $2,000 to repair
the cracks in Courts 1 & 2. Next spring we will repair the
cracks in Courts 3 & 4. We hope these repairs will last for
two years, so that we can maintain this annual repair schedule.
We experienced an increase in court usage this year, especially
in the mornings. Our courts have always been available for our
residents to play. As our population has increased, there has
been an increase in the number of members playing tennis, and
the guests they invite to our facility. More play does not wear
out the courts, weather and cracking damages the court surfaces.

Snowmobiling Starts in December
Early in the season last winter there
were a number of complaints about snowmobile usage inside Meridian
Lake. During December, the enthusiasm is high, but the hazards
to residents on foot are just as real.
High-speed operation of any vehicle represents a danger to both
the vehicle operator and other residents. Non-snowmobiling residents
do not welcome the noise or potential damage to property.
Also note that snowmobiling on private land, sudbdivision roads
and County roads is against the law.
Be careful and courteous on your snowmobiles. More specific requirements
will be detailed in the January newsletter. Editor
High Speed Internet Availability
Residents of the north end of Gunnison
Valley will soon be able to get high-speed Internet with a cable
modem soon from Adelphia. Cost will be about $46/month with their
cable TV service and $58/month without their service. Unfortunately,
this will not include Meridian Lake Park sub-division, because
cable service is not available.
There appears to be little hope that Qwest will be offering DSL
service, since they have a quota to meet to justify bringing in
the equipment. This would not include MLP because they would have
to add DSL converters for us at their equipment box by the tennis
courts. Adelphia will probably be capturing most of the market
first. That leaves two practical options for MLP residents.
StarBand Satellite Service
Most practical is StarBand satellite service offered through EchoStar.
If you have either Dish Network or Direct TV you can add this
independent satellite service. Initial equipment cost is $525
for a new 30" dish and modem; plus $300 to $500 installation
labor. Cost is $70/month with a one-year initial subscription.
For part-time residents this StarBand service may be suspended
when you are not here after a year's commitment is over.
StarBand operates at 400+ kbs for downloading, and 60 kbs for
uploading. Downloading is comparable to DSL or cable modems. Presently
our dial-up modems are limited to 25 kbs by the equipment by our
tennis courts.
Anyone interested in StarBand should visit Dennis Goree TelCom
for a free demonstration at Radio Shack, 316 Belleview, or call
349-1942 for more info.
Internet Colorado's Microwave Service
The other possible option for some in our sub-division is microwave
service offered by Internet Colorado. But you must be line-of-sight
to their antenna on the top of Skyline Ridge. Call them at 641-0555
for more information. Editor
Family Potluck / Barbeque July 5th
If you missed the Association's barbeque and potluck, please
try to attend next year's. Weather was excellent, the food was
delicious and the conversations gratifying. It is a wonderful
setting to meet more people in our sub-division and get to know
them better.
Natural Gas Line Status
Fifty percent of the home/lot owners responded to the natural
gas survey with 68% in favor (34% of the owners). The MLPC board
is obtaining cost and financial information to determine if it
is appropriate to ask the owners for formal approval. More to
come in the next newsletter. Curt Wilker
Thanks for the Work Day Help
Thanks to everyone who volunteered for the workday. The perimeter
cattle fence was checked and repaired. The path to the National
Forest in the Meadows next to the Ganz home was marked.
Good Fishing in Our Reservoir
Fishing has been good for many people, especially on the north
end of the reservoir away from the dam. Several people have caught
large rainbows.
The reservoir was last stocked before the summer of 2002; so will
probably be stocked again before next year.
Hwy 135 Improvements
Work on the final six-mile stretch
of Hwy 135 Gunnison started this August and is slated for completion
by November 2004. Final improvements will be from north of Almont
down to mile marker six north of Gunnison. So expect more delays
next summer.
This construction project started back in 1995. $23.2 million
has been spent to date. The final phase will cost $7.6 million
for a total cost of $31 million for this 25-mile stretch of two-lane
road. That's 1.25 million per mile!
The County must be expecting increased development to justify
this large capital expenditure. Editor
